There has been a lot of talk about the effect that the baby boom will have on social services such as social security, but there hasn’t been much mention about what the high volume of people over the age of sixty five out driving on the road will do to car insurance accident statistics and over 60 car insurance rates. People over the age of sixty five already have a direct statistical relation to car accidents, more clear than most. While these seniors account for only fifteen percent of the high performance car insurance drivers, they also count for the same percentage of car insurance accidents. A few years down the line, there will be twenty five percent over 60 car insurance policy holders on the road, and the expectation is that they will be responsible for the same twenty five percent of car insurance accidents and also of fatalities from car insurance accidents.

There is one group that has a higher rate of fatality and collision at all than the over 60 car insurance policy holders, and that group if for people under the age of twenty five. The reasons for both groups being in essentially the same category are different. For teenagers, the reason for the high fatality rate tends to be because the accidents that they are involved in are less severe. For over 60 car insurance policy holders, the reason for this tends to be because they are more frail and even a smaller car insurance accident could prove fatal. As for the rate of accident itself, teenagers are new to the road, so that is expected. However, over 60 car insurance policy holders are often losing control of their visual faculties and have more problems on the road for other health related reason.

So how do we solve this for over 60 car insurance policy holders with high performance cars as a whole, and what can you as an over 60 car insurance customer do to make it better on an individual level?

On a larger level, there needs to be some attempt to help older drivers come to terms with their driving abilities and help them minimize any influence that failing health might have on their ability to drive. A lot of organizations are already doing this, especially AARP, the American Association of Retired People. They have many programs that help older drivers deal with the averse affects of their health problems and maximize their ability to drive safely, by taking part in such offerings as defensive driving course. You can participate in these courses even if you are not a member of the AARP.

Car insurance companies themselves have made an effort to hold older drivers accountable for their health by putting stringent requirements and imposing higher rates on those who fail to comply. The best way that you, as an older driver, can both help to solve the problem is to follow these requirements and get regular check ups on your health and your vision to make sure that you are still able to safely operate a vehicle.
